Klopp's Madrid Blueprint Takes Shape: Paz Deal Sealed for £7.8m

The Real Madrid managerial carousel appears to have finally stopped spinning, with Jurgen Klopp poised to take the reins at the Bernabeu—and he's already identified his opening recruitment target.

Reports from Spain confirm that Paz, the 2004-born Argentine winger, will arrive from Serie A side Como for €9m (£7.8m) as Klopp's maiden signing. The Spanish giants hold a purchase option on the youngster and view the opportunity as one they cannot afford to pass up, exercising their right to bring him back to the capital.

The move comes at a time of considerable upheaval at the Bernabeu. Xabi Alonso was shown the door earlier this season following the Spanish Super Cup defeat to Barcelona, with whispers of dressing room friction over team selections and tactical choices. Alvaro Arbeloa subsequently took charge, though the appointment's permanence remained unclear from the outset.

The situation has scarcely improved since. Real Madrid find themselves a distant 11 points behind Barcelona in La Liga, whilst a Champions League quarter-final exit at the hands of Bayern Munich appears to have settled the matter—change is coming in the dugout.

Paz's credentials are noteworthy. The Argentina international has plundered 12 goals and registered six assists for Como this season, making him an attractive prospect despite his youth. At just €9m, Madrid believe they're capitalising on a market opportunity that won't last long.

Yet not everyone at the club is convinced about Klopp's appointment. Kylian Mbappé has reportedly made his preference known, viewing Jose Mourinho as the more desirable option. Whether that dissent will prove troublesome remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, another significant development looms. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed in January that David Alaba is expected to depart as a free agent come summer, with negotiations over a contract extension having stalled entirely. The Austrian defender, it appears, is ready to seek pastures new after his spell in the Spanish capital, with Romano suggesting a 98% likelihood of his summer exit.

So while Klopp prepares to reshape the squad in his image, Real Madrid face the prospect of losing a cornerstone of their defence—hardly the scenario the club would have envisioned.
