Fabrizio Romano's Wednesday confirmation added further weight to the narrative. Senior figures within Real Madrid hold Klopp in high regard, according to the transfer specialist, though any approach depends entirely on the 57-year-old signalling his willingness to return to management.

"The first step must be Klopp deciding he wants to return to coaching," Romano explained. "If he does that publicly, then yes, he would be an option for Real Madrid in the summer."

Klopp himself has maintained that his Red Bull role remains his focus and that the Alonso situation carries no bearing on his future plans.

Yet the intrigue deepens. Reports suggest Klopp would demand six new signings should he take the helm, and Spanish outlets have confirmed he stands as the favourite, with Arbeloa understood to be merely a holding operation. The interim boss's embarrassing defeat to Albacete in his opening fixture hardly bolstered his case for permanence.

But Perez's ambitions extend far beyond managerial recruitment. The president harbours what has been described as a "great goal"—the acquisition of Manchester City's Erling Haaland.
