Terry's Chelsea Gambit Rejected as Blues Wield the Axe on Rosenior

Chelsea have made their move in the dugout, parting company with Liam Rosenior after a run of five straight Premier League matches without a goal proved too much to stomach.

The Blues sit seventh in the table, seven points adrift of Liverpool and the Champions League places, with an FA Cup semi-final against Leeds looming this Sunday. Enter Calum McFarlane for his second interim management stint of the campaign.

But here's where it gets spicy. According to talkSPORT's Andy Jacobs, John Terry threw his hat into the ring, keen to take temporary charge until the summer. The response from the Chelsea hierarchy? A resounding and unambiguous no.

"I've been told John Terry wanted to [take over until the end of the season], but they didn't want him. And they told him in no uncertain terms that he will never, ever get the job," Jacobs revealed.

The legendary former captain has form when it comes to disappointment at Stamford Bridge. He was overlooked for the interim role in January when Enzo Maresca departed, with McFarlane getting the nod instead. Terry hasn't held back about his frustration.

"Not annoyed, probably more frustrated, because I was certainly part of that under-21s group that went over," Terry explained. "So even if I didn't take the team … Calum took the team, did really well, got a result out of the [Manchester City] game. I feel like I should have been part of that."

He continued: "Now listen, people have got to make decisions. I love it when people make decisions and they go 'yes' or 'no'. Clearly the ownership, or whoever made those decisions – the sporting directors – have gone 'no' not to include me, for whatever reason. I don't know why."

Meanwhile, Rosenior's departure was handled with the customary diplomatic language. In their official statement, Chelsea praised the former Hull City and Strasbourg manager for his professionalism and integrity, but acknowledged that recent form has fallen short of required standards.

McFarlane will now shepherd the side through the remainder of the campaign as they hunt European football and a cup run, whilst Chelsea prepare for a summer rebuild. The club's brass have signalled their intention to undertake a thorough process of reflection before making their long-term managerial appointment.
