The 20-year-old French centre-back has already been singing the praises of his new defensive partner to the club's official channels, and his glowing assessment of Van Dijk speaks volumes about the Dutchman's future at Anfield.

When asked about linking up with the Liverpool legend, Jacquet was effusive. "Of course, I'm really excited to line up alongside a great player like him. I think he's up there with the best centre-backs in the world currently, so I can only learn from him," he told the club's media team.

Pressed on whether Van Dijk ranks among his idols, the young defender clarified his thinking: "I don't like using the word 'idol', not even for the best players I admire. But naturally, he's a player I look up to. As far as I'm concerned, he's one of the best centre-backs and if I want to reach the very top I've got to absorb as much as I can from him, obviously."

Van Dijk's status at Liverpool cannot be overstated. A fixture since 2018, the 34-year-old has collected two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, two EFL Cups, and a Champions League medal in his time on Merseyside. He remains under contract until the end of next season, though Galatasaray have been touted as suitors.

Yet the landscape has shifted considerably this summer. Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson have already departed, while Ibrahima Konate's exit to Real Madrid represents a significant blow to the defensive ranks. In this context, FSG allowing Van Dijk to slip away to Turkey would be difficult to justify.

The fact that Jacquet has been paraded before the media specifically to discuss his admiration for Van Dijk is hardly accidental. It's a message from Liverpool: the captain isn't going anywhere.
