Wilson Should Spurn Liverpool and Chelsea for Villa, Says Agbonlahor

Fulham's in-form winger Harry Wilson faces an intriguing summer decision, with a former Aston Villa striker making a compelling case for why the 29-year-old should choose Villa over the bigger names circling him.

Wilson's contract situation at Craven Cottage means a move awaits come June, and his performances this season have certainly caught the attention of the elite. The Welsh international has been nothing short of brilliant for Marco Silva's side, contributing ten goals and six assists across 31 Premier League outings—numbers that have helped fire Fulham into European contention.

Silva himself waxed lyrical about his attacking midfielder's impact earlier this year. "He's been incredible," the Fulham boss reflected in January. "Right now everything he touches becomes something magic, something that will have an impact. You just have to try to take the best from him. It's the best moment of his career definitely. He's enjoying and he's worked very hard. His numbers are top, incredible. Very humble, a hard worker always."

Yet Gabriel Agbonlahor reckons Wilson would be making a mistake chasing the Anfield or Stamford Bridge dream. Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Villa forward outlined his reasoning: a free transfer to Birmingham makes far more financial sense than splashing wages at Liverpool or Chelsea, particularly given Villa's likely constraints on spending this summer.

"Very good footballer," Agbonlahor said. "There's talk that maybe Aston Villa, on a free transfer. 29 years of age, suits Aston Villa this summer because I'm not sure they'll have big, big money to spend. Free transfer, not ridiculous wages as well. Ten goals, six assists so far this season in the Premier League, some screamers as well."

The stylistic fit matters too. Villa's attacking setup—with players like John McGinn, Morgan Rogers and Emi Buendia drifting in from wide positions—would suit Wilson's game perfectly. And with Harvey Elliott expected to return to Liverpool, Buendia remains Villa's only established attacking midfielder, creating a genuine opening for guaranteed starts.

That's where Agbonlahor sees the real advantage. "He fits into that Aston Villa style, even if he plays off one of the wings, sometimes they come in," he explained. "It just makes sense to play under a manager like Unai Emery. You're going to a club that, fingers crossed, are fighting for titles, they're going to be in the Champions League.

"If you're Harry Wilson, it's a no-brainer because if he tries to look at maybe a Liverpool… Chelsea, but maybe a Liverpool, maybe he doesn't start enough games. But at Aston Villa, he will get more starts. I think that move makes sense for him and Aston Villa."
