Diomande Casts Doubt on €150m Price Tag Amid Liverpool Links

Yan Diomande has cast doubt on the astronomical €150m (£130m) valuation being placed on him this summer, despite keen interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs.

The RB Leipzig winger finds himself in the crosshairs of Liverpool and other heavyweight suitors as the transfer window approaches, but the 19-year-old Ivory Coast international remains unconvinced that any outfit will actually cough up the asking price.

"I heard about it, but I don't know if it's going to be okay for everyone to pay that," Diomande told those enquiring about the fee. His candour suggests a degree of realism about the market, even if his own ambitions remain sky-high.

Liverpool are actively hunting for fresh attacking talent heading into the summer window, particularly with Mohamed Salah edging towards the exit. The Reds' left flank could also require reinforcement given Cody Gakpo's inconsistent displays this season. Having already committed over £400m to transfers last summer, Arne Slot appears set to green-light another significant spending spree.

Diomande stopped short of naming names but made his intentions crystal clear. "I'm not going to say Paris, Liverpool or Real Madrid. But it would be a good idea to play for big clubs," he explained. "Everyone has ambitions and every day you want to go higher. So it was Leganés, today I'm a Leipzig player. I'm not going to hide my desires or my dreams. I want to play for a big club, of course."

The youngster's trajectory—from Leganés to Leipzig—underscores his upward trajectory, and he seems prepared to take calculated gambles to reach the next level. "Football is my life, and my life is about taking risks," Diomande added. "We're alive, but we never know what might happen. I am African, I am a believer. I believe in God, I work. Whatever the club, I am ready to fight every day to win my place, to give my best."

That said, reports earlier this week suggested Diomande could be persuaded to pen fresh terms at Leipzig, staying put for one more campaign before engineering a summer departure in 2027. Nothing's set in stone just yet.

Elliott Could Sweeten the Deal

With such an eye-watering fee attached to Diomande, Liverpool's sporting director Richard Hughes may look to trim the bill through creative structuring. The Times' Paul Joyce has reported that Harvey Elliott could be offered as a makeweight in any potential transaction.

Elliott was on Leipzig's radar last summer but the German outfit couldn't meet his valuation at the time. Instead, the 23-year-old attacking midfielder joined Aston Villa on loan—a stint that proved far from successful. Now more than ever, the England international needs consistent playing time to rebuild his career. Leipzig's offer of Champions League football could prove an attractive proposition for both player and club.
