Guardiola Left in the Dark as Silva Prepares Manchester City Exit

Bernardo Silva's time at Manchester City appears to be drawing to a close, with transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirming the Portuguese midfielder is gearing up for a fresh challenge elsewhere once his current deal expires at season's end.

The 31-year-old has been a fixture at the Etihad since arriving from Monaco in 2017 for £43.5m, accumulating 450 appearances and 14 major honours—including the Champions League and six Premier League crowns—under Pep Guardiola's stewardship. Yet despite this glittering CV, his departure looks increasingly inevitable.

"Unless there is a dramatic change, Bernardo Silva is preparing to leave Manchester City at the end of the season when his contract expires," Romano stated on his YouTube channel, describing the decision as "almost final" following months of deliberation.

What's rather amusing is that Guardiola claims to be completely in the dark about it all. The City boss revealed he'd explicitly asked Silva to be the first to know, only to be met with radio silence.

"I do not know," Guardiola admitted. "A month ago I said I had to be the first for him to tell me and he didn't say anything to me yet. I said jokingly to him to tell me, I deserve it, but he didn't tell me. I do not know what is going on."

Yet the manager was effusive in his praise for the midfielder, describing him as an "incredible" signing he'd "love" to see stay and finish his career at the club. Guardiola highlighted Silva's intangibles—his competitiveness, his fire, and his ability to rise to the occasion when it matters most—rather than flashy statistics.

"He is not the tallest one, the most muscular one, or score 50 goals or make 50 assists a season," Guardiola explained. "From nine years, I know him quite well and for what a manager requires. All managers would say how much they love him because he is incredibly competitive, has a fire inside him always."

The manager went on to emphasise Silva's big-game mentality: "In the toughest moments and on the biggest stages, he is always there. It is not about playing good or bad, it is about being yourself and being not afraid."

As for where Silva might land, Romano suggests the midfielder and his agent Jorge Mendes are casting a wide net. Saudi Arabia and Turkey are among the destinations being considered, whilst several European leagues have expressed interest. Barcelona stands out as a particularly intriguing option given Mendes' strong relationship with the Catalan club and their long-standing admiration for the Portuguese star.

Paris Saint-Germain has also historically pursued Silva, though Romano notes that personal and family considerations will weigh heavily on his final decision as he enters the latter stages of his career.

"The direction is clear – Bernardo Silva is preparing for a new chapter away from Manchester City," Romano concluded.
