Gordon's Bayern Move Could Pave Way for Liverpool's Diomande Swoop

Liverpool are steering clear of a reunion with Anthony Gordon this summer, despite the Newcastle winger's anticipated departure, but his move elsewhere could work in the Reds' favour in a roundabout fashion.

The Merseysiders are on the hunt for fresh attacking reinforcements as they plot to bolster their wide options ahead of next season. With Mohamed Salah confirmed to be leaving Anfield when his contract expires, plus inconsistent performances from their squad under Arne Slot leaving them fourth in the Premier League, recruitment is a pressing matter.

Cody Gakpo, Salah, and several other key operators have failed to hit their usual heights this campaign, prompting the need for upgrades on both flanks.

Gordon and Liverpool appeared destined for a reunion last June when a £75m move seemed imminent, with Joe Gomez heading to Newcastle as part of a £45m counterpart deal. Newcastle ultimately pulled the plug on the arrangement, but the England international's head had reportedly already been turned by the prospect of Anfield.

Fresh reports suggest Gordon's time on Tyneside is winding down, though Liverpool have made their position clear. The Athletic has confirmed the Reds harbour "no plans to revive that interest this summer", closing the door on a second attempt at the deal.

However, the situation could still benefit Liverpool's transfer ambitions. Bayern Munich remain keen on Gordon as they search for additional wide reinforcements, with the German outfit viewing him as a potential alternative to their primary target: RB Leipzig's 19-year-old sensation Yan Diomande. Bayern believe Diomande's asking price will prove prohibitive, making Gordon an attractive fallback option to partner Harry Kane in Bavaria.

If Gordon does complete a move to the Bundesliga, it could remove an obstacle in Liverpool's path to securing Diomande, who has already been internally "approved" as Salah's successor.

According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, the Leipzig winger sits atop Liverpool's replacement wishlist, with the green light already given by all major decision-makers at the club. Preliminary discussions are underway with his representatives at Roc Nation Sports, though formal negotiations between the clubs have not yet commenced and no agreement is in place.

Leipzig are keen to improve Diomande's contract terms and secure a fresh commitment from the teenager. Paris Saint-Germain, with Luis Campos steering the ship, are also circling and have already met with the player's agents, meaning Liverpool face stiff competition for his signature.

The path to landing Diomande remains complicated, but Gordon's probable exit from English football could at least eliminate one complicating factor in the equation.
