Gerrard Demands Liverpool Sign "Box Office" Winger to Fill Salah Void

Steven Gerrard has laid down the law at Liverpool, declaring the Reds simply must recruit a headline-grabbing winger to compensate for Mohamed Salah's imminent exit this summer.

The Egyptian's shock announcement this week confirmed what many feared: his nine-year tenure at Anfield is coming to an end. It's quite the departure to stomach. Salah departs having plundered 255 goals and created 122 assists across nearly a decade on Merseyside, collecting six major honours including two league crowns and the Champions League along the way.

Having penned fresh terms last season and powered Arne Slot's side to the title in the Dutchman's maiden campaign in charge, Salah has endured a torrid 2025-26. Form has deserted him entirely, prompting the decision to call time on his Merseyside adventure.

Bayern Munich's Michael Olise represents the pipe dream option, though Liverpool's recruitment team will need to cast their net considerably wider.

The club icon, speaking to TNT Sports, pulled no punches about what comes next: "I would be very surprised if they are not in the market for these types of players because you have to buy someone who is box office or else you are not replacing him. They have to be top end, top three or four wingers in the world, to replace Mo Salah, because that is what he has been."

Former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves subsequently outlined three potential candidates as successors, stressing the monumental challenge ahead. "To replace Mo is going to be hard and cost a lot," Hargreaves reflected. "You need somebody very special."
