Delap Shines While Garnacho Flops as Chelsea Cruise Past Hull in FA Cup

Pedro Neto's brilliance proved the antidote to Delap's struggles. With the game's tension dissolved, Delap found his rhythm, twice providing excellent hold-up play to create opportunities for both Estevao and Neto, who completed his hat-trick. By evening's end, Delap had contributed to Chelsea's fourth as well, offering a more encouraging portrait of a young talent capable of genuine growth.

By contrast, Alejandro Garnacho continued his alarming decline. The flashy winger has been Chelsea's Premier League liability this season, and Friday's performance suggested his days in the first team are numbered. Micah Richards had implored him to display greater conviction and consistency before kick-off, but Garnacho squandered a presentable first-half chance and showed poor decision-making in dangerous areas. Shearer rightly criticised his lack of "desire" when he opted to simulate injury for a penalty rather than compete for possession.

This represents the latest chapter in Garnacho's disappointing Chelsea tenure. Hooked against Leeds after failing to master the fundamentals, he remains a footballer of obvious ability who simply isn't applying himself.
