Manchester United Lodge Formal Complaint Over Penalty Decisions in Bournemouth Stalemate

Manchester United have escalated their grievances to the top, filing a formal complaint with the PGMOL following Friday evening's frustrating 2-2 stalemate at Bournemouth.

The Red Devils believe they were robbed of a second penalty when Adrien Truffert challenged Amad Diallo, only to watch the same type of challenge result in a spot-kick awarded against Harry Maguire moments later. Junior Kroupi stepped up to convert the penalty and secure a point for the hosts.

The match itself swung wildly in momentum. Bruno Fernandes initially broke the deadlock from the penalty spot, with James Hill's own goal appearing to have settled matters for United before Christie's classy finish hauled Bournemouth level.

Interim manager Michael Carrick wasted little time venting his frustration post-match, questioning the glaring inconsistency. "We should have had another penalty," he told assembled media. "Obviously, if you get one, you must get the other. It's pretty much identical for me, two-hand grab. Either way, he got one wrong, but to give one and not give the other, I can't get my head around it. I think it's crazy. It's a bit baffling, really."

Carrick added that the decision shaped the entire complexion of the contest. "Because of that, they score and then it's chaos after that, really. We should have had another penalty and the game would have been totally different."

United's hierarchy share his indignation. Director of football Jason Wilcox is understood to have raised the matter formally with referee chief Howard Webb today, with the club flagging what they view as another VAR failure. The club has also questioned the allocation of nine minutes' added time.

Former Premier League referee Keith Hackett has backed United's case, telling Football Insider that both incidents represented "clear offences". He was particularly emphatic about Maguire's dismissal: "These are nailed on penalty kicks, and Maguire made no attempt to play the ball and is rightly sent off for DOGSO. Amazed that the first one was not awarded. These two incidents are clear holding offences. VAR should have intervened on the first one and awarded Man Utd a penalty kick."
