Pereira Named Fourth Forest Boss of Season as Marinakis Grows Impatient with Dyche Regime

Nottingham Forest have moved to appoint Vitor Pereira as their latest permanent manager, marking the fourth such appointment this season following Sean Dyche's departure. The Portuguese coach penned his deal on Friday and the club confirmed the arrangement on Sunday afternoon.

Dyche's tenure came to an abrupt end in the wake of Wednesday's goalless stalemate against Wolves, capping off a disastrous spell that saw him oversee ten defeats across 25 matches. His removal comes amid a season of extraordinary managerial upheaval at the City Ground, where owner Evangelos Marinakis has overseen a dramatic reversal of fortunes since last campaign's European qualification.

The rot set in early this season when Nuno Espirito Santo, who had built genuine momentum, was jettisoned following a falling-out with Marinakis. That miscalculation led Forest to swing wildly in the opposite direction by recruiting Ange Postecoglou, whose experiment lasted precisely eight matches without a win before the plug was pulled.

Dyche arrived as the supposed steady hand to arrest the decline, but his rescue mission crumbled spectacularly, leaving the club just three points clear of the drop zone.

According to Sky Sports, Marinakis' frustration stems from two specific shortcomings: the club's failure to maximise its attacking resources and a stubborn inability to shift away from the relegation battle. These grievances, combined with Pereira's track record of short-term salvage operations and his existing relationship with Marinakis, have sealed the appointment.

Pereira brings genuine pedigree to the task. He previously managed Olympiakos, another Marinakis holding, delivering a league and cup double in 2015. More recently, he orchestrated an unlikely Wolves escape last season, hauling them from nine points in 16 matches through to safety with games remaining.

That resurrection earned him considerable credit in the West Midlands, though his start to this campaign proved considerably less impressive—just two points from a possible 30 before his eventual sacking.

Forest appear unmoved by that recent stumble. Pereira's appointment marks his 14th managerial role, and his CV reveals a pattern: he has remained at just one club beyond two years. For Forest's purposes, the calculation is straightforward—you engage Pereira for immediate impact rather than long-term stability.
