Transfer season's tall tales are already in full swing, and one particularly creative yarn has just been firmly dispatched to the bin.

Last week, Football Insider served up the notion that Liverpool might flog Florian Wirtz to Chelsea this summer—a claim so audacious it required immediate debunking. This is, after all, a player the Reds splashed out a then-record £116m to acquire from Bayer Leverkusen just twelve months ago.

The theory presumably hinged on Xabi Alonso's arrival at Stamford Bridge and his proven track record with Wirtz at Leverkusen. Football Insider suggested Chelsea harboured "strong interest" and that Liverpool could be persuaded to part with the 23-year-old for the right price, despite any public denials.

TEAMtalk's Graeme Bailey swiftly extinguished that particular flame. Liverpool, he explained, have invested far too much in Wirtz's development to consider selling. Yes, the German struggled initially to settle, but with a wholesale squad overhaul underway, that was hardly surprising. Bailey was categorical: "Wirtz is at Liverpool to STAY."

Now Fabrizio Romano has delivered the final word. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer authority made clear there's nothing to this whatsoever.

"No, Florian Wirtz is not leaving Liverpool this summer," Romano stated plainly. The relationship between player and Alonso remains strong from their Leverkusen days, he acknowledged, but that's where it ends. No negotiations are happening. Chelsea aren't even shopping in that particular aisle.

What matters most, Romano emphasised, is that Liverpool regard Wirtz as a crucial squad member moving forward. The club's hierarchy remain convinced that next season could prove transformative for the winger in a red shirt.

"Absolutely no movements around Florian Wirtz," Romano concluded. "Forget about those links coming from England."
