United and Spurs Circle Dortmund's Nmecha as Summer Target

Two of England's biggest clubs have their eyes on the same prize this summer, with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur monitoring Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha as a potential acquisition.

The 25-year-old midfielder has become one of the Bundesliga's most sought-after talents, though any move is unlikely to happen this January. Both Premier League sides are keeping tabs on his situation ahead of the transfer season proper.

The Player

Nmecha comes with considerable pedigree. A former Manchester City academy product who spent 14 years at the Etihad, he made three first-team appearances and registered one assist before moving on. He represented England at youth level (U16, U18, U19) and has since earned six senior caps for Germany, scoring once.

His brother Lukas plays for Leeds as an attacker.

The Situation

Spurs appear to be moving quickest. According to reports, the north Londoners managed to observe Nmecha closely when Dortmund visited Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for a Champions League fixture on Tuesday – a match Spurs won 2-0, with Nmecha playing 67 minutes.

Dortmund are not in the business of letting their man go cheaply. The Bundesliga side are holding firm at a €60million (£52m) asking price, with Nmecha contracted until 2028. They're unlikely to budge significantly below that figure.

When asked about a potential Premier League future before facing Spurs, Nmecha remained coy: "Whether I want to play in the Premier League or not, I'm not going to say right now. I think for me it's simply important that we win this game and that I hopefully enjoy this special day."

Where They Stand

Tottenham have already been active in January, bringing in Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid for £35million while offloading Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace for a similar fee. Languishing in 14th place, Thomas Frank may hope to add another body or two before the window closes, with RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande also on the radar.

United's midfield ambitions have shifted following recent upheaval. With Michael Carrick now in interim charge after Ruben Amorim's departure, significant January business looks unlikely. However, summer recruitment will be a major focus, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe expected to back the next permanent manager substantially.

Alongside Nmecha, United are considering alternatives including Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, Brighton's Carlos Baleba, and Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson. The Dortmund midfielder could prove an intriguing wildcard option come the off-season.
