Xavi Opens Door to Premier League Move as Man Utd and Spurs Circle, but Old Trafford Faces Stiff Competition

Xavi is ready to consider a Premier League adventure, with Manchester United and Tottenham both potentially in the mix—though the Old Trafford job may prove a tougher proposition than it first appears.

The ex-Barcelona head coach, who delivered La Liga glory during his tenure at Camp Nou, has been without a club since departing the Spanish outfit at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season. Fresh reports suggest the legendary midfielder-turned-manager is prepared to take the plunge into English football, with several top-flight vacancies potentially coming his way this summer.

United's recent managerial upheaval has left Michael Carrick holding the fort in an interim capacity following Ruben Amorim's departure, but the club is widely expected to bring in a more established figure before the new campaign kicks off. Tottenham, meanwhile, find themselves in a state of flux, with Thomas Frank's position increasingly precarious as the Lilywhites contemplate their long-term direction.

According to Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke, Xavi has already made it clear he would be receptive to either opportunity. "He would be an interesting option for both Manchester United and Tottenham," O'Rourke explained. "Obviously he has got a glittering CV from his time at Barcelona."

The analyst believes Xavi himself would relish the prospect of testing himself in the Premier League. "I'm sure Xavi himself would be interested in the chance to maybe move to the Premier League and either join Manchester United or Tottenham," he said.

Yet there's a catch. While Xavi's pedigree cannot be questioned—a title winner with one of Europe's biggest clubs and available on a free transfer—the evidence suggests he may not rank particularly high on either club's wishlist at present.

"I'm not sure he's probably so high up the list of both clubs," O'Rourke cautioned. "Obviously we know United are looking for a permanent manager in the summer with Michael Carrick in interim charge at the minute. Thomas Frank, for now, is still in charge at Tottenham, and no decision has been made on what they're going to do long-term."

O'Rourke added that whilst Xavi's style of football and standing in the game make him an attractive proposition, the race for the United job in particular appears more crowded than one might assume. "Xavi, he's a big name and he would fit the bill on a lot of cases with his style of football and everything else," he said. "With him being free, it probably makes him a more interesting option than maybe other candidates, but I think right now probably United obviously are looking at other managers. There are probably other managers ahead of Xavi in the list that they are looking at."
