Galatasaray Join Saudi Suitors in Bruno Fernandes Chase With £52m Summer Move

Galatasaray have reportedly earmarked funds to pursue Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes during the forthcoming summer transfer window, according to Spanish reports.

The Portuguese midfielder's current deal at Old Trafford runs through 2027, prompting speculation that United might consider cashing in rather than risk losing him on a free transfer. The Turkish outfit are believed to be budgeting around €60m (£52m) for the move and are keen to accelerate negotiations before the pre-season period kicks off.

Fernandes, 31, has remained one of the few consistent performers at United despite the club's recent struggles. Yet he's previously revealed the uncomfortable reality of his situation at the club. In December, he disclosed that Al Hilal's president had contacted him directly, with former teammate Neves also reaching out to gauge his interest. Jorge Jesus, who managed Fernandes previously, had apparently been pushing the Saudi move since 2023.

The midfielder acknowledged the financial allure of a Middle Eastern switch, describing how his lifestyle and his children's lives could transform after six years of Manchester's weather. However, he ultimately decided against pursuing a departure, citing family considerations and genuine affection for United, though his comments suggest the club's apparent willingness to let him leave left him feeling undervalued.

"The club wanted me to go," Fernandes stated bluntly. "I have that in my head. I told the directors this, but I think they didn't have the courage to make that decision."

He elaborated on the emotional toll of sensing United were open to his departure: "It hurts me a lot. More than hurting, it makes me sad because I'm a player they have nothing to criticise about. I'm always available, I always play, good or bad. I give my all."

Fernandes insisted he never leveraged his position to force a move, despite opportunities to do so, maintaining that his commitment to the club remained genuine even as uncertainty swirled around his future.

Galatasaray's interest now adds another dimension to United's predicament. The club must weigh whether to offer their captain fresh terms or entertain offers from multiple suitors. Former defender Paul Parker has publicly urged United to cash in on Fernandes, while pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested the midfielder is squandering his talents at Old Trafford.

The Turkish giants are reportedly optimistic about their chances despite facing competition from Bayern Munich and others, with their stated aim to begin formal discussions imminently.
