Lineker Slams Tuchel's Alexander-Arnold Snub as "Insulting" – Demands Explanation for Real Madrid Star's Omission

Gary Lineker has launched a withering critique of Thomas Tuchel's squad selection, insisting the England manager must harbour a "personal" vendetta against Trent Alexander-Arnold to justify leaving the Real Madrid right-back out of his 35-man squad for March friendlies.

With Tuchel framing the squad announcement as a "last chance" for players to secure World Cup travel, the omission of Alexander-Arnold raised eyebrows. The situation was compounded when Ben White received a call-up following Jarell Quansah's withdrawal from the Bayer Leverkusen contingent, bumping out the Liverpool academy product for a second time.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker expressed bewilderment at the decision. "There's something personal, because football-wise, there's no argument," the pundit declared. He struggled to fathom how Alexander-Arnold could be overlooked when his technical abilities would seemingly strengthen England's chances, even from the bench.

Lineker speculated that Tuchel's reasoning might centre on perceived defensive shortcomings or attitude concerns, but dismissed both as insufficient grounds for exclusion. "You've got players playing in his position, with all due respect, that are not in the same league as him, certainly with the ball at his feet," he argued, highlighting Alexander-Arnold's creative prowess as precisely the kind of spark England might need in tight encounters.

The inclusion of White proved particularly galling to Lineker. Whilst acknowledging the Arsenal defender's reluctance to play for England previously, he questioned how White could possibly rank ahead of Alexander-Arnold. "I think that's really insulting to a seriously top full-back," Lineker concluded.

White's recall sparked jeers from Three Lions supporters during the Uruguay fixture, though Jordan Henderson rushed to his teammate's defence post-match. The Liverpool captain suggested many fans were simply echoing media narratives without understanding the full picture. "Some of the fans probably don't even know why they are booing, they listen to what is being said in the media, and a lot of the time what the media says isn't true," Henderson said.

He referenced the Qatar situation obliquely, noting that internal matters would remain within the camp. "Not many people know the ins and outs of what happened in Qatar and it is for us to deal with internally," Henderson explained, emphasising the squad's commitment to supporting White going forward.
