Emery Plots Real Madrid Overhaul: Six-Player Shake-Up Demanded in Fresh Board Talks

Unai Emery's impressive work at Aston Villa has not gone unnoticed at Real Madrid, with fresh reports indicating the Spanish club is seriously courting the Villa manager about their managerial vacancy.

Following initial contact at the end of January, Emery has now held a second meeting with Real Madrid's board, and the La Liga side's hierarchy has been presented with an ambitious blueprint for rebuilding the squad. According to reports from Spain, the Aston Villa boss has laid out demands for six transfers to reshape the struggling giants.

Real Madrid's season has been marked by upheaval and disappointment. The departure of Xabi Alonso in early 2026 led to the appointment of Álvaro Arbeloa, formerly in charge of Real Madrid Castilla, but the former Liverpool defender has already shown signs of struggling to command the dressing room. A disappointing Copa del Rey exit and a drop to the Champions League play-offs have compounded matters, while Barcelona's grip on La Liga has left Madrid trailing in second place.

Emery's credentials speak for themselves. His tenure at Villa has been nothing short of transformative—the club has finished seventh, fourth, and sixth across the past three seasons while navigating severe PSR complications. Remarkably, they now sit third in the Premier League, seven points clear of Liverpool in sixth, and are genuine contenders for Champions League qualification.

Yet the Spaniard's transfer demands at the Bernabéu would prove eye-catching, to say the least. According to reports, Emery wants to move on both Jude Bellingham and Trent Alexander-Arnold, arguing he refuses to inherit a squad poisoned by internal toxicity and repeating the mistakes that plagued Alonso's reign. However, club president Florentino Pérez has not approved these departures.

Ferland Mendy and Antonio Rudiger are also earmarked for exits, though these moves are viewed as less contentious within the club's hierarchy.

On the recruitment side, Emery is fixated on Chelsea's Enzo Fernández, convinced that Real Madrid desperately requires a creative playmaker—and specifically one with World Cup-winning pedigree. Beyond that, he is pursuing a marquee attacking talent. The shortlist reportedly includes Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala, Juventus's Kenan Yildiz, or Morgan Rogers, the Villa winger Emery has already worked with at Villa Park.
