Marinakis Ready to Wield the Axe: Dyche's Job Hangs in the Balance After Toothless Wolves Stalemate

The knives are being sharpened at the City Ground. Nottingham Forest's goalless stumble against rock-bottom Wolves has left owner Evangelos Marinakis seething, and Sean Dyche's future as manager now hangs precariously in the balance.

Despite unleashing 35 shots at Jose Sa's goal, Forest couldn't break down Wolves' stubborn defence on Wednesday evening. The visitors, propping up the league with just nine points to their name, clung on for a draw that only intensifies the pressure cooker atmosphere around Dyche.

According to reports, Marinakis is incandescent with how the campaign has deteriorated and wouldn't hesitate to make a fourth managerial change this season—having already dispensed with Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou. With Forest not returning to action for over a week, when they face Fenerbahce in the Europa League play-offs, there's a convenient window for the Greek businessman to make his move.

Dyche cut a frustrated figure in his post-match assessment, acknowledging the mountain they're facing. "Very frustrated of course," he began, before dissecting the familiar refrain that's haunted Forest all season. "They set their stall out early to come and defend and look for breaks. It is very frustrating to dominate a game like that, with so many chances and there were plenty of good chances but it's finding that killer moment."

The manager spoke of the psychological toll such performances extract. "The crowd get nervy, the team get nervy, there is a lot of pressure on these games," he explained. "The start was good. We were opening them up. When teams are fully flowing, finding that last pass, making that run they all seem to come together quickly. When it is not quite there people start snatching shots and cross and the crowd get on top quickly."

He stressed that effort and commitment weren't in question—rather, it's the clinical finishing and composure in the final third that's proving elusive. "There is no lack of effort or commitment it is just finding those moments. We can't rely on others. Finding the key moments is the frustration."

Dyche pointed to the broader context, noting that "one loss in six is usually a good run but in the position we are in it is not classed as a good run." He acknowledged the challenge of maintaining momentum through adversity: "Every time we get a chance to push forward and clear the decks we don't quite deliver those moments. It is a work in progress."

The Forest boss concluded with a plea for perspective. "I am not out there playing it is about trying to get the team to find that confidence amongst the noise and the freedom to go and play. When the hard times come we have to go and deliver."

Yet Marinakis appears to be running out of patience. Fulham boss Marco Silva has reportedly emerged as Marinakis's prime target to take the reins at the City Ground. The 48-year-old Portuguese manager remains unsigned on a new contract at Craven Cottage, making him a potential target.

The pair share a history dating back to their time together at Olympiakos, where Silva orchestrated a record-breaking Greek Super League title triumph. That relationship has evidently endured, and Marinakis apparently believes Silva possesses the nous and experience to stabilise the club and finally bring his long-term vision to fruition.
