Tottenham Complete Defensive Overhaul as De Zerbi Lands Robertson and Senesi on Free Transfers

Roberto De Zerbi has wasted little time getting to work in the transfer market, with Tottenham moving swiftly to land two significant defensive reinforcements as free agents this summer.

The north London outfit narrowly escaped the drop on the final day of the 2025/26 season, with De Zerbi's arrival proving transformative after replacing Igor Tudor. Following their 1-0 victory over Everton that secured top-flight status, the Italian boss made it clear that significant squad surgery would be required during the off-season.

That overhaul is already gathering pace, with Spurs having wrapped up deals for Liverpool's departing left-back Andy Robertson and Bournemouth's centre-back Marcos Senesi.

Robertson Completes Move Despite Late Juventus Interest

The 31-year-old Robertson has penned a verbal agreement to join Spurs on a free transfer, bringing an end to his 11-year stint at Anfield. The move had been mooted in January, but the Scottish international has now committed to the switch following Tottenham's survival confirmation.

Juventus attempted a last-ditch intervention to hijack the deal, but the Serie A side's late proposal failed to sway Robertson's preference. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news on X, stating that the agreement would be honoured and formalised imminently.

German journalist Florian Plettenberg subsequently revealed that Robertson's medical has been scheduled to complete the formalities of his move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Senesi Deal Sealed After Month of Talks

Alongside Robertson, De Zerbi has secured Argentine centre-back Senesi from Bournemouth on a free transfer. The 27-year-old has been one of the Cherries' standout performers this season and had attracted attention from across Europe.

Senesi had indicated his desire to join Spurs before the campaign's conclusion, though the transfer was contingent on Tottenham avoiding the drop. With Premier League safety now confirmed, journalist Rudy Galetti has declared the deal a formality, with all contractual terms agreed and only administrative procedures remaining.

Both signings represent shrewd business for Tottenham, allowing De Zerbi to strengthen his backline without spending a transfer fee as the club looks to build on their dramatic survival.
