United's Formal Push for Summerville as Rashford Exit Looms

Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville, lodging official enquiries with the Hammers as they prepare for life without Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford.

INEOS chiefs are backing the move for the Netherlands international, viewing the 24-year-old as the ideal candidate to fill the void on the left wing should Rashford depart. The Red Devils have made a formal move for Summerville, signalling their intent to accelerate the deal.

Rashford's situation remains murky. Barcelona have opted against triggering the £26million purchase clause on his loan arrangement, leaving the England winger's future in limbo. The Spanish giants are pushing for another temporary spell, but United are determined to shift him permanently—even if it means selling to Premier League rivals Arsenal or Chelsea.

West Ham are demanding £50million for Summerville, who arrived from Leeds United last summer and has since racked up eight goals and seven assists across 56 appearances. The winger is contracted to the London club until 2029, with an additional year available as an option.

Currently representing the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup, Summerville has already made an impact on the tournament's biggest stage. He netted in his nation's 2-2 opening fixture against Japan on June 14, underlining his credentials as a genuine attacking threat.

Speaking to West Ham's official channels on June 13, Summerville opened up about his shock inclusion in the World Cup squad. "It's always a boy's dream to be selected for the World Cup, and it was also one of my goals before the start of the season," he explained. "I'm 24, so I knew it was a nice age to be in and around it, and I wanted to do everything I could to be there."

The winger revealed that assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy had watched him play against Bournemouth before an injury derailed his preparations. "The manager usually wants to see your playing style and how you fit into the group, so it was a bit of a surprise to be included in the World Cup squad," he said. "But, I know they've seen some of my matches and they know what I can do."

Summerville described the moment he received the call. "I was with my family when I got the call. We went to celebrate, and we prayed. We were all on the couch at home when we heard, so a lot of emotion came out. It was a great moment, and I'm just so grateful for the opportunity."
