Cole Palmer 'Open' to Manchester United Switch; Red Devils Could Tempt Chelsea Star Away

Cole Palmer has indicated he would seriously entertain the prospect of joining Manchester United, the club he supported growing up, in what would represent one of the winter's most eye-catching transfers.

The Chelsea winger, who has spent much of the current campaign sidelined through injury, has become increasingly unsettled at Stamford Bridge. Palmer has managed just 13 appearances across all competitions this term, though he remains one of the standout acquisitions of Chelsea's recent recruitment drive.

Since arriving from Manchester City for £42m in summer 2023, the 22-year-old has been a revelation in west London, accumulating 41 goals and 19 assists in 82 Premier League outings. Yet sources now suggest that a return to his native North West could prove irresistible, particularly given his long-standing affection for United.

Palmer hails from Wythenshawe, Manchester, and regularly travels back to visit family and friends. According to reports, he would not consider rekindling his relationship with City, despite speculation that he might return if Pep Guardiola departs in the summer. United, however, presents an entirely different proposition—one that holds genuine appeal.

Chelsea legend Marcel Desailly has expressed concern that Palmer could submit a transfer request should the Blues fail to secure Champions League football, raising the prospect of an exodus from Stamford Bridge.

However, the picture remains somewhat muddled. Transfer expert Graeme Bailey had suggested as recently as Monday that Palmer remains "fully committed to Chelsea" and content with his surroundings. Bailey explained that while Palmer harbours long-term ambitions of playing for United—a lifelong dream—he is currently "settled, valued and focused" at Chelsea and not actively seeking an exit. Senior figures at the club view him as central to their rebuild under BlueCo.

Fabrizio Romano has been equally emphatic that nothing will materialise in the January window, with Chelsea adamant that Palmer is non-negotiable. Manager Liam Rosenior recently confirmed in his press conference that Palmer remains a crucial component of the long-term project, having held several conversations with the player about his happiness at the club.

Chelsea's stance is unequivocal: Palmer stays put, at least for now.
