Xavi Open to English Move, But Chelsea Haven't Come Calling, Says Romano

The managerial merry-go-round continues to spin, with Xavi Hernandez's name swirling around multiple Premier League clubs—though the reality, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, is rather more straightforward than the rumour mill suggests.

Romano has moved to quash speculation linking the 46-year-old former Barcelona boss with Chelsea, insisting there has been zero dialogue between the two parties. Despite reports earlier in the week that Chelsea were eyeing Xavi as a potential successor to interim manager Calum McFarlane, the Italian journalist has made clear the Blues are simply not in contact with him.

That hasn't stopped Xavi's representatives from suggesting otherwise. According to talkSPORT's Ben Jacobs, those close to the Barcelona legend have been insisting Chelsea have made preliminary overtures. Jacobs reported on 5 May that Xavi's camp claims the Blues are interested, though he countered that Chelsea are unlikely to pursue the move, instead focusing their attention on Xabi Alonso, Marco Silva, and Andoni Iraola.

Romano's assessment backs up that scepticism. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer guru was emphatic: "Zero. Nothing happened between Chelsea and Xavi," before adding that this represents no slight on either party, merely that they are not currently in talks.

What does appear genuine is Xavi's appetite for an English adventure. Romano revealed that the former midfielder is genuinely keen to test himself in the Premier League and feels ready for a fresh challenge following his spell at Barcelona. He's open to considering England as a destination, much as Andoni Iraola has done at Bournemouth, and views a move across the channel as a potential next chapter rather than his sole option.

However, there's another English club in the mix. Manchester United have had Xavi proposed to them since January, when Rúben Amorim's departure created a vacancy at Old Trafford. Michael Carrick was handed the interim role at that point and now appears set to continue in the position permanently, making Xavi's chances at United slim.

For now, then, Xavi remains without a club and without concrete offers, despite the persistent chatter linking him to English football's biggest names.
