Wright-Phillips: Chelsea Must Free Cole Palmer to Unleash His Magic

Palmer has managed just nine Premier League goals this season, whilst Garnacho has managed a solitary strike—figures that fall well short of what supporters expect from such gifted players.

According to Shaun Wright-Phillips, the solution for Palmer lies in tactical liberation. The former Chelsea winger believes the club should construct their system to maximize his creative brilliance rather than burdening him with defensive graft.

"When I watch him, I don't want him anywhere near the box," Wright-Phillips told Sky Bet. "You've got to be clever with a player of his quality. Garnacho, however, faces a different challenge. Wright-Phillips suggests the winger must confront a harsh reality: a single strong season at Chelsea, or even half a campaign, simply isn't sufficient currency at the highest level.

"His ego might be working against him," Wright-Phillips observed. "In the Premier League, consistency is everything. One decent spell doesn't get you noticed—you need to deliver week after week. Chelsea fans demand nothing less than total commitment. Show them you're grafting for that badge, and they'll be behind you."

The warning carries an edge: with nearly half a dozen wingers in the squad, Garnacho cannot afford complacency. Even an in-form talent like Jamie Gittens represents a genuine threat to his standing.

For Chelsea, the message is twofold. Unlock Palmer's genius through intelligent deployment, whilst demanding Garnacho prove his worth through sustained excellence rather than flashes of quality.
