Chelsea eye Cambiaso swap as Real Madrid circle Fernandez

The search is on at Stamford Bridge to fill the left-back void left by Marc Cucurella's surprise £52m switch to Real Madrid this week. Chelsea have now opened discussions with Juventus regarding a swap arrangement for Andrea Cambiaso, the Italian outfit's versatile 26-year-old defender.

While the Blues initially valued Cambiaso at £25m, Juventus are holding out for closer to £34m – a gap that has prompted both clubs to explore a player-plus-cash structure. That player, it appears, is Nicolas Jackson. The Chelsea forward has spent the season on loan at Bayern Munich, and the Turin club see him as an attractive proposition to sweeten any deal.

Jackson's future at Stamford Bridge had been uncertain, with the striker keen to secure guarantees about his role under new manager Xabi Alonso before committing his long-term future. That hesitation has handed Juventus an opening. The Serie A giants have long admired the 23-year-old and view him as someone who could bolster their attacking options whilst simultaneously helping to bridge the valuation chasm between the clubs.

Chelsea do have Jorrel Hato available – the £37m signing from Ajax last summer – but Alonso clearly wants additional depth at left-back. Nathaniel Brown was previously on their wishlist before opting for Bayern Munich, whilst Alejandro Grimaldo, who thrived alongside Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen, is thought to favour a homecoming to Spain rather than a move to England.

Barcelona are also keeping tabs on Cambiaso as they hunt for a left-back replacement following their own failure to land Cucurella ahead of the Spanish giants.

Across the Spanish capital, Real Madrid are accelerating their pursuit of Chelsea's midfield assets. An agreement in principle has been reached with Enzo Fernandez on a contract through 2032, paving the way for a formal approach to Chelsea. Madrid are preparing a bid exceeding £100m for the Argentine, though the Blues value him at £120m. Fernandez is understood to be keen on the move and is actively pushing for the transfer to materialise.
