Mikel Slams Rosenior's "Forced" Authority as Chelsea Players Tune Out

John Obi Mikel has delivered a withering assessment of Liam Rosenior's Chelsea tenure, suggesting the embattled manager is constructing a false persona rather than leading with genuine authority.

Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, the Chelsea legend—who collected ten major honours at Stamford Bridge, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League—took aim at Rosenior's press conference demeanour and the apparent disconnect between boss and squad.

"There's something that is not quite right with his appointment," Mikel declared. "He's trying to speak in a certain way. He comes in press conferences, he's enforcing his authority by force. He wants to do it but it's not natural."

The 41-year-old Rosenior arrived with a promising start, winning his opening four Premier League matches. However, that momentum has evaporated spectacularly. Chelsea have claimed just one victory in their last six top-flight outings, leaving them sixth in the table whilst also suffering humiliating exits from both the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

Mikel suggested Rosenior's repetitive rhetoric about "my players" and "my team" rings hollow given his brief tenure and the reality of boardroom control. "You've only been there five minutes mate, so stop saying that, act normal, act natural and try and create some chemistry with your team," the former midfielder urged.

The criticism intensified when Mikel reflected on Chelsea's recent capitulation at Everton. "We were dumped out of the Champions League in a disgraceful manner and you follow that up and go to Everton and lose 3-0. I watched the game, it was awful to watch, ridiculous. They were all over us and played like they were PSG."

Most damning of all was Mikel's assessment of the fractured relationship between manager and players. "There is no cohesion, there is no chemistry, there is no trust between Liam Rosenior and his players," he said bluntly. "I see him, and it's like the players are not listening to him."

The comments underscore mounting pressure on Rosenior as Chelsea's season unravels, with the manager's very approach to leadership now under fire from one of the club's most respected figures.
