Palmer Signals Man Utd Switch as Red Devils Eye Record-Breaking Summer Deal

Cole Palmer has indicated his willingness to make the switch to Manchester United, with the Red Devils weighing up an audacious summer swoop for the Chelsea attacking midfielder.

The 23-year-old emerged through Manchester City's academy before being sold to Chelsea for approximately £42.5million ahead of the 2023/24 season. Guardiola deemed Palmer surplus to requirements despite his obvious talent, a decision that has proven costly given his subsequent flourishing in West London.

Since arriving at Stamford Bridge, Palmer has amassed 48 goals and 29 assists across 110 appearances in all competitions, establishing himself among Europe's elite young attacking talents. This season has seen injuries limit his involvement to just ten Premier League starts, yet his stock remains remarkably high.

Palmer is believed to have harboured lifelong affections for United, and recent reports suggest growing discontent at Chelsea has crystallised his desire to pursue a move to Old Trafford. A reunion with his boyhood club appears increasingly plausible, particularly if Bruno Fernandes departs—the Portuguese midfielder continues attracting Saudi Pro League interest.

According to reports, Palmer would actively welcome United's advances and has no appetite for a return to City while Pep Guardiola remains in charge.

The financial hurdles are substantial. Extracting Palmer from Chelsea would require a record-breaking fee likely exceeding £150million—a sum that would eclipse the £130million Liverpool invested in Alexander Isak last summer, making him the Premier League's costliest player ever.

Any Palmer arrival would reunite him with England teammate Kobbie Mainoo, the young midfielder appearing set to remain at United following Ruben Amorim's appointment. United are now preparing to resume contract negotiations with Mainoo, whose current terms see him earn around £20,000 weekly.

Previous renewal discussions, initiated after Mainoo had made just two senior appearances in February 2023, had stalled. His existing contract expires next season, with United holding an option to extend by a further year.
