George Heads to Goodison as Everton Scramble for Deadline Day Solutions

Everton's deadline day scramble is taking shape, with Chelsea teenager Tyrique George poised for a medical ahead of a switch to Goodison Park. The 19-year-old will arrive on loan with the option to become a permanent fixture should he impress David Moyes and his squad.

The Merseyside outfit have had a frustrating few hours in the transfer market. Their pursuit of Fulham's in-form winger Harry Wilson has hit the rocks after the club rejected their advances for the out-of-contract wide man. Meanwhile, their right-back plans remain decidedly murky following a dramatic twist in the Genoa saga.

The Italian side's interest in Everton's Nathan Patterson hinged entirely on landing Brooke Norton-Cuffy from their own ranks. However, the 22-year-old has opted to remain in Serie A rather than entertain moves to either the Premier League or the considerable charms of Juventus and Inter. Norton-Cuffy, capped at England U21 level, has prioritised game time and will reassess his future come the summer window instead.

Patterson himself has barely featured since arriving from Rangers for around £12million back in January 2022, though he has recently clawed his way into Moyes' starting eleven following a spell on the sidelines. Jake O'Brien remains an alternative at the position.

George's arrival represents a late pivot in Everton's attacking recruitment. The Chelsea youngster has managed just 11 appearances this season—five from the start—for the Blues, notching three goals and an assist in the process. A move to Fulham on deadline day last summer fell through, and his opportunities at Stamford Bridge have been suffocated by the club's relentless spending habits under both Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior.

Manchester United had reportedly circled the teenager as a summer target, but Everton have moved decisively to get the deal over the line before the window slams shut. Whether it proves a masterstroke or another false dawn remains to be seen.
