Palmer Staying Put: Chelsea's Firm Stance Ends Manchester United Speculation

Cole Palmer's name has been doing the rounds in the transfer gossip columns again this week, but Fabrizio Romano has moved swiftly to pour cold water on the speculation linking the Chelsea star with a potential departure.

The £42.5m signing from Manchester City has proven to be a genuine bargain since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, establishing himself as one of the Premier League's standout performers and far exceeding the expectations that typically accompany such a transfer. Yet his excellence has inevitably sparked talk of suitors circling—most recently, an outlandish claim suggested Palmer might lodge a transfer request with a view to rejoining Manchester United.

Not so fast, according to Romano. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer correspondent has laid out Chelsea's position in unmistakable terms: Palmer is going nowhere.

"We had rumours in England about Cole Palmer's desire to go back to Manchester, maybe to Man Utd, Palmer to leave Chelsea in the summer. In January, nothing is happening. At this stage, Chelsea's position is very clear," Romano explained. "They see Palmer as a crucial part of their project. Chelsea don't want Palmer to leave the club."

Manager Liam Rosenior reinforced the message during his latest press conference, describing Palmer as integral to the club's blueprint going forward. "I had several conversations with Cole and he's very happy here," Rosenior stated. The Chelsea hierarchy, Romano continued, harbour no concerns at this juncture and remain focused on building around their star man.

"Chelsea are not on alert for anything at this stage. Obviously, there will be always rumours around Palmer, a fantastic player. But as of today, January, nothing is happening and Chelsea are counting on Palmer at this stage."

Journalist Ben Jacobs has backed up this assessment, insisting Chelsea will flatly reject any overtures for Palmer's services. The forward is viewed as untouchable within the club's structure.

Luiz Deal Hinges on Key Condition

Elsewhere, Romano has shed light on Chelsea's pursuit of Nottingham Forest loanee Douglas Luiz, revealing the move from Juventus remains on the table—but only under specific circumstances.

"Luiz on a loan deal from Juventus is a concrete possibility," Romano stated. "The player is open to joining Chelsea, so now it depends on Chelsea and Juventus to try to reach an agreement."

Here's where it gets interesting. Chelsea are strictly interested in a temporary arrangement with no strings attached. The club is adamant it will not accept any obligation-to-buy clause—a stipulation that differs markedly from Nottingham Forest's summer agreement with Juventus, which included an option that could convert to an obligation under certain conditions.

"Chelsea are only interested in a loan deal. Chelsea don't want any obligation to buy elements," Romano explained. "They want to remove the obligation system unless it's very complicated. They don't want to be forced to buy Luiz in the summer."

The upshot is straightforward: if Juventus agrees to a straightforward six-month loan without future purchase requirements, Chelsea will happily move forward. Should the Italian club insist on inclusion of obligation clauses, the Blues will walk away from the negotiation.
