Iraola Eyes Chelsea Role as Blues Weigh Summer Options

Andoni Iraola has emerged as a serious contender for the Chelsea hotseat, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. The Bournemouth manager, who confirmed his summer departure from the south coast, would welcome the opportunity to take over at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea moved swiftly to remove Liam Rosenior this week following a catastrophic run of form. The manager, who took charge midway through the campaign, lasted just 23 matches across all competitions before the axe fell. A run of five consecutive Premier League defeats and seven losses in the last eight games proved terminal to his tenure.

Calum McFarlane has stepped in as interim head coach for the remainder of the season, with the club tasked with stabilising the situation before making a permanent appointment in the summer.

Romano revealed on his YouTube channel that Iraola would be receptive to the prospect. "Iraola would be keen on the possibility of becoming the new Chelsea manager," Romano explained. "But at the moment, Chelsea are still in the early stages. They want to take their time and decide who the ideal candidate is. There is still nothing advanced or done with Iraola."

The Blues have cast a wide net in their search, with multiple names circulating. Cesc Fabregas and Frank Lampard have both been mentioned, though the former Barcelona midfielder appears unlikely to abandon his Como project imminently.

Fabregas, currently settled in Italy, shows no signs of wavering in his commitment to the Serie A club. Romano suggested that Como are confident of retaining their manager. "Fabregas is very happy at Como and he is already planning for next season with Como in terms of new signings, tactics and ideas," Romano stated. "Como's feeling is that Cesc will be their manager next season and they hope to be in European football."

The expert added a note of caution, however. "It will also depend on what happens at Chelsea. They are yet to decide who will be the new coach. They are considering candidates and they are exploring possibilities, but this process will take some time."

The club's official statement acknowledged the decision to part with Rosenior, thanking him for his professionalism whilst conceding that recent performances had fallen below required standards. Chelsea remain focused on European qualification and FA Cup progression under McFarlane's stewardship for now.

Speculation has also surfaced regarding a potential reunion with Antonio Conte, though such a move appears less straightforward at present.
