Chelsea Move for Kounde as Barco Deal Confirmed

Chelsea continue their relentless recruitment drive despite navigating murky financial waters, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that Valentin Barco has committed to a summer switch to Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old left-back has put pen to paper on personal terms and signalled his willingness to make the move from Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, where he's featured 39 times with seven goal contributions to his name. The deal remains under Chelsea's control given their ownership stake in the French club through BlueCo.

"Colo Barco wants Chelsea and it's all set on player side," Romano confirmed. "Up to Chelsea if/when to proceed, in total control of the deal being at Strasbourg."

Barco's arrival would add to an already busy recruitment calendar. Chelsea have already wrapped up agreements for Geovany Quenda, Dastan Satpaev, Denner, Emmanuel Emegha, and the Strasbourg contingent—a model that reflects their continued strategy of stockpiling emerging talent.

The Blues' spending spree comes despite the club posting the Premier League's worst pre-tax loss on record, forcing them to rely on shrewd sales to finance their ambitions. That financial juggling act hasn't deterred their scouts, however.

Now, attention turns to a more established target. Chelsea are preparing a determined push for Barcelona's Jules Kounde, the French defender who slipped through their fingers back in 2021. Reports suggest the Catalans would demand £65-70 million for the 26-year-old, who could be prised away this summer if the right offer materialises.

"Chelsea still have faith in their transfer policy and are expected to stick with it," a source explained. "But they're open to adding more experience if the opportunity arises, and Kounde is someone they've been interested in for a long time. They're aware he could leave Barcelona this summer and are preparing an aggressive approach to lure him to Stamford Bridge."

Liverpool and Manchester City are also understood to be monitoring Kounde's situation as Barcelona navigate their own financial constraints.
