Real Madrid Ready to Offload Tchouameni in Fernandez Pursuit as Garnacho Loan Talk Hots Up

The transfer rumour mill continues to churn on the continent, with Spanish outlets reporting that Real Madrid are prepared to sacrifice midfield lynchpin Aurelien Tchouameni to land Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez.

The La Liga giants are understood to view Fernandez as their ideal midfield recruit and are willing to part with the French international – valued around €65m (£57m) – alongside a cash injection of €100m (£87m) to make the move happen. It's quite the statement of intent from Carlo Ancelotti's side.

The proposed switch comes at an interesting juncture for Fernandez, whose own Chelsea story has hardly been a fairy tale since his arrival from Benfica in February 2023 for a whopping £106.8m. Under Todd Boehly's ownership – which began in May 2022 following Roman Abramovich's departure – the Blues have splurged well over a billion quid in the transfer market. Yet that lavish spending hasn't translated into silverware, with the club finishing sixth and fourth in the previous two Premier League campaigns and currently occupying sixth spot after sacking Enzo Maresca in favour of Liam Rosenior.

Meanwhile, the outgoings at Stamford Bridge could accelerate further. Atletico Madrid have reportedly come calling for Alejandro Garnacho, the Argentine winger who only arrived from Manchester United last summer, with a loan move touted. The player is apparently open to the proposition, viewing it as a pathway to guaranteed minutes ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Diego Simeone has given the green light, though Chelsea have yet to rubber-stamp anything.

There's also movement involving Raheem Sterling, who remains exiled from Chelsea's squad setup this season. Napoli have begun preliminary discussions with Sterling's representatives to gauge the feasibility of a switch to Serie A. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed the Serie A side are now entering a phase of serious evaluation regarding the winger, having previously offered him a lifeline last summer before deciding against it.

Sterling himself is reportedly keen on a fresh start abroad – an experience outside England's borders appeals to him, much like the moves that have reinvigorated players such as Scott McTominay and Rasmus Højlund. Whether Napoli will ultimately commit remains to be seen, but the conversation is now firmly in motion.
