Fernandez Eyes Madrid Exit as Real Close In on Chelsea Midfielder

Real Madrid are circling Enzo Fernandez, with reports suggesting the Chelsea midfielder has reached a personal understanding over a potential switch to the Bernabeu this summer.
The Argentine has emerged as a key target for Carlo Ancelotti's side in the wake of Marc Cucurella's £51.8m departure to Madrid earlier this month. Now, according to Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari, Fernandez has struck a verbal agreement with Real Madrid on a five-year contract, though the two clubs have yet to thrash out a fee.
Longari claimed on X that Chelsea are reluctant to part with their prized midfielder, but the player himself is keen to force the move through. Real Madrid's initial valuation stands at a minimum of €120 million, with a first formal contact between the clubs anticipated imminently.
This represents the latest twist in what has become an increasingly complicated summer for Chelsea. Fernandez previously found himself in hot water last season after making comments about a potential Real Madrid move during the international break, prompting the Blues to take disciplinary action.
However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has urged caution about the pace of developments. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano confirmed that Fernandez remains firmly on Real Madrid's radar, though he is one of several midfield options being weighed up by the Spanish giants.
"Enzo Fernandez is definitely on the list at Real Madrid," Romano explained. "He is not the only name, there are two or three midfielders under consideration, but Enzo is definitely one of them. Real Madrid have genuine interest and the player would be open to joining Real Madrid."
Yet Romano subsequently poured cold water on suggestions that negotiations are already underway. As of Friday, he insisted, there had been zero contact between Chelsea and Real Madrid, and zero formal discussions.
"Someone said this could be another Cucurella deal done in 24 or 36 hours," Romano noted. "We will see what happens, but Enzo Fernandez is not even in negotiations at this stage."
The situation remains fluid, with the coming days expected to provide greater clarity on whether Real Madrid will make a serious push to land the 23-year-old Argentine.
