Chelsea Target Newcastle's Tonali and Villa's Rogers in Ambitious January Plans

Chelsea are plotting a significant midfield overhaul, with their scouting network locked onto two Premier League talents as potential reinforcements both this month and over the summer.

The west London club have identified Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali as a key acquisition for next summer, viewing the Italian midfielder as the ideal upgrade on current squad player Andrey Santos, who cost approximately £18m when he joined the Blues. Tonali has established himself among the division's elite midfielders this season, though he faces competition from Juventus, who have reportedly made him their primary target.

Chelsea's hierarchy believes Tonali represents the quality needed to strengthen the depth behind their established attacking triumvirate of Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez. The club harbour concerns about their midfield reserves, with Romeo Lavia's persistent injury problems compounding the issue. Tonali's Premier League pedigree and current form make him an attractive proposition for the summer window, though any move is not expected to materialise in January.

In a separate pursuit, Chelsea are readying a staggering €150 million (£130m) proposal to prise Morgan Rogers away from Aston Villa. The attacking midfielder has become Chelsea's prime target in attack, with the club convinced his creative qualities and positional flexibility—capable of operating centrally or on the left flank—could provide the creative spark their forward line requires.

These transfer ambitions come as Chelsea work to appoint a successor to Enzo Maresca, with Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior understood to be the frontrunner for the vacant head coach position.
