Boehly Eyes Barcelona Trio as Chelsea Plans Summer Spending Spree

Chelsea are preparing to make a significant move in the transfer market, targeting three of Barcelona's key performers as Todd Boehly continues his ambitious recruitment strategy at the club.

The Blues' co-owner, known for his willingness to back his ambitions financially, is personally steering efforts to land defender Jules Kounde, midfielder Dani Olmo, and winger Raphinha from the Catalan giants. A reported €250 million package would be required to land all three, according to Spanish media sources.

Since taking the helm at Stamford Bridge in 2022, Boehly has overseen spending of £1.5 billion across 37 first-team signings. Whilst trophy success has been limited—the UEFA Conference League and 2025 FIFA Club World Cup representing the tangible rewards—the American businessman shows no signs of easing his investment approach.

Kounde, capable of operating as both centre-back and right-back, is valued at approximately €65 million. The 29-year-old has become a fixture at Barcelona with 181 appearances, though reports suggest he is not performing at his peak, potentially creating an opening for negotiations with club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco.

Olmo presents a different situation. The attacking midfielder, who arrived from RB Leipzig, has found regular starts increasingly difficult to come by at Camp Nou. His 19 goals and 13 assists across 73 matches indicate quality, yet Barcelona's financial pressures may force their hand should a substantial offer materialise.

Raphinha represents the marquee target. The Brazilian winger, previously on Chelsea's radar before his 2022 move to Barcelona from Leeds, has flourished in Spain with 68 goals and 56 assists in 171 appearances. Boehly is understood to be prepared to make a significant financial commitment to facilitate his return to English football.

All three players remain contracted to Barcelona beyond the summer of 2028 at minimum, meaning any deals would require substantial negotiating power and resources—something Boehly has demonstrated he possesses in abundance.
