Fernandez Offers Himself to Real Madrid as Chelsea Struggles to Hold Star Midfielder

Enzo Fernandez has reportedly made his interest in joining Real Madrid clear, with the Chelsea midfielder apparently growing weary of life at Stamford Bridge and the English climate, according to Spanish media claims.

The Argentine playmaker arrived at Chelsea in January 2023 as the club's record signing, with the Blues splashing out £106.8m to prise him away from Benfica. That astronomical fee was justified after Fernandez claimed the Young Player of the Tournament gong at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where Argentina ultimately lifted the trophy.

While his early months in the Premier League proved challenging, Fernandez has since blossomed into one of Chelsea's standout performers. Under new boss Liam Rosenior, the 23-year-old has netted 11 goals from midfield across 35 appearances this season—a tally that underscores his growing importance to the club's ambitions.

Yet Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda, writing for OK Diario, suggests the midfielder's honeymoon period at Chelsea is over. Speaking on El Chiringuito, Inda claimed Fernandez is "fed up" with both the club and London itself, with the relentless English rain apparently proving a particular sticking point.

"A great player has been offered to Real Madrid who would be a great fit for them," Inda stated. "He was the best young player at the Qatar World Cup and is a close friend of a Real Madrid player. We're talking about Enzo Fernandez, who is close to Mastantuono. He's fed up with Chelsea and the city of London. For an Argentinian, a place with so much rain isn't very appealing. His dream is to play for Real Madrid someday."

Chelsea are reportedly demanding €140 million should they entertain offers for their prized asset, with swap deals previously floated as a potential avenue for negotiations.

Rosenior is now facing a mounting headache over his star players' futures. Speculation has swirled this week regarding Cole Palmer's contentment at the club, with suggestions the winger could eye a move closer to his Wythenshawe roots. The Chelsea boss quickly shut down those rumours, dismissing any notion that Palmer might decamp to Manchester United.

When quizzed about the Fernandez speculation, Rosenior adopted a similarly dismissive tone, insisting the Argentine remains central to his plans.

"It means nothing to me," Rosenior told reporters. "When you're a world-class player, there's always going to be speculation that you can't control. He's a Chelsea player. He's very important to me. I think we're going to have a really good, hopefully winning relationship in the short term and the long term."

Whether those words prove persuasive enough to keep Fernandez at the Bridge remains to be seen.
