Iraola Set to Become Chelsea's Next Manager as Rosenior Departs

Chelsea have identified Andoni Iraola as their next permanent manager, with the Bournemouth boss having signalled his willingness to make the switch after being attracted to the BlueCo project, according to reports emerging from Spain.

The west London club confirmed the departure of Liam Rosenior on Wednesday, following a torrid run of five consecutive Premier League matches without a goal. Chelsea currently sit seventh, seven points adrift of Liverpool and Champions League qualification, with interim boss Calum McFarlane set to oversee Sunday's FA Cup semi-final against Leeds.

BlueCo's statement emphasised their intention to conduct a thorough review before making their managerial appointment, though Spanish media claims the decision on Iraola has already been made. The club's hierarchy view the 43-year-old as ideally suited to their vision, believing his methods can revitalise a young squad that appears to have hit a psychological wall.

More intriguingly, Iraola appears genuinely keen on the proposition. Reports suggest he has prioritised Chelsea above other suitors, including a potential emotional return to Athletic Club, and is inclined to remain in English football rather than head back to Spain.

Journalist Ben Jacobs had previously outlined a broader shortlist encompassing ten candidates, with Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique among those considered. Al-Ahli's Matthias Jaissle, the former RB Salzburg boss, has also emerged as a surprise option, with preliminary groundwork reportedly underway on the 38-year-old.

Iraola, who will become a free agent this summer after rejecting fresh terms from Bournemouth, has so far maintained a diplomatic line publicly. A 2-2 draw against Leeds on Wednesday moved Bournemouth above Chelsea into seventh, yet when pressed on Chelsea's interest post-match, Iraola deflected, emphasising his focus on Bournemouth's remaining fixtures and his respect for the club's supporters.

"I think I said it when I announced I was not continuing here," he said. "For me, now, it's about Bournemouth. Four games. We have an incredible position, an incredible fight ahead."
