Rashford to Chelsea? Cole Sets Two Key Requirements as Alonso Eyes Real Madrid Trio

Marcus Rashford's resurgence at Barcelona has caught Chelsea's attention, but whether the Red Devils' outcast ends up at Stamford Bridge depends on getting the numbers right, according to club icon Joe Cole.

The England forward has impressed during his loan stint in Spain, returning 14 goals and 14 assists to earn a spot in Thomas Tuchel's squad for the summer. Barcelona remain in talks over a permanent £26m deal, yet they're facing competition from Bayern Munich, leaving the door open for Premier League suitors.

Cole reckons Chelsea have a genuine shot at landing Rashford if the deal stacks up properly. "It's just a matter of the wages and the valuation," the former midfielder told the Sun Sport. The conditions? Keeping the package sensible and ensuring the investment makes strategic sense for new boss Xabi Alonso's rebuild.

"Rashford ticks a lot of boxes, but you don't want to spend a fortune on him – he'd do a good job for Chelsea," Cole explained. "He needs to keep going, Marcus, he needs to keep his confidence up because he rebuilt himself at Barcelona, and there's still another level for him to jump to. He's someone Chelsea should inquire about, but it'll depend on the deal."

However, Cole's real dream signings for the Blues venture considerably further afield. The legend has identified three positions requiring urgent reinforcement: a striker to bolster the front line, an experienced defender at centre-back, and potentially a goalkeeper to compete with existing options.

His fantasy shopping list reads like a who's who of the Bernabéu. "I'd love Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Antonio Rudiger," Cole admitted, though he acknowledges the practical reality facing Alonso's project.

With the Chelsea coffers reportedly running on fumes after years of lavish spending that failed to deliver, Cole warned that the new manager may need to operate within tighter constraints. "Xabi Alonso needs to work out where he can get value for money, because I don't think there's a lot of money left at Chelsea to be honest with you," he said. "There's been a lot of money wasted, so he may have to work with what he's got."
