Chelsea Circle Bournemouth's Iraola as Rosenior Successor Search Heats Up

Chelsea have made contact with Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola as the Blues embark on their hunt for a permanent replacement following Liam Rosenior's sacking last week.

The west London club had little alternative but to dispense with Rosenior after a disastrous spell saw them lose seven of their last eight matches, including five consecutive defeats that have severely dented their Champions League ambitions. The 3-0 humbling at Brighton last week proved to be the moment the dressing room finally turned its back on the manager.

With interim boss Calum McFarlane having steered Chelsea to the FA Cup final, the club will look to install a permanent figurehead during the summer window.

Iraola has emerged as a leading candidate to take the reins at Stamford Bridge. The Spaniard has earned considerable plaudits for his work at Bournemouth and is regarded as one of Europe's brightest young managerial talents. The Cherries sit among the chasing pack for a potential sixth-place Champions League qualification spot, though Iraola has already signalled his intention to move on when his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

According to reports, Chelsea's five-strong contingent of sporting directors have made preliminary contact with Iraola's representatives to explore his availability and gauge his thinking on a potential summer move. The conversation remains in its infancy and was primarily designed to gather intelligence on the manager's plans rather than to table any concrete offer.

Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Iraola would welcome the prospect of continuing his Premier League career at Chelsea, though the Blues are keen to take their time and consider multiple options before making a decision.

"Iraola would be keen on the possibility of becoming the new Chelsea manager," Romano stated. "But, at the moment, Chelsea are still in the early stages. They want to take their time and decide who the ideal candidate is. There is still nothing advanced or done with Iraola."

Iraola is far from the only name under consideration, however. Fulham boss Marco Silva has also been identified as a genuine contender for the role, with Chelsea expected to conduct thorough discussions with several managers as part of a comprehensive recruitment process.
