Garcia and Ferdinand Back Raya as World's Premier Goalkeeper

Rio Ferdinand and a Barcelona star have both identified David Raya as the world's best goalkeeper, despite Arsenal's Carabao Cup final loss.

Arsenal's campaign remains brimming with possibility. Barring the domestic cup setback, Mikel Arteta's side retain genuine chances of landing the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup this season—a haul that would represent a genuinely exceptional year.

While attacking impetus occasionally falters, the Gunners can reasonably claim to field Europe's most well-rounded squad. Several performers have proven instrumental, none more so than goalkeeper Raya.

The Spanish international has vindicated Arsenal's choice to bring him in as Aaron Ramsdale's successor. Under Arteta's stewardship, Raya has established himself among the continent's elite goalkeepers, repeatedly rescuing his team and delivering consistent excellence.

Barcelona's Joan Garcia has been effusive in his praise, naming Raya as the standout keeper currently operating at the highest level.

"Right now, I like David Raya," Garcia told El Larguero when discussing who merits the accolade.

"He's having a fantastic season in the Premier League. He's under immense pressure with set-pieces, his footwork… He's playing at a very high level and I'm really enjoying watching him."

Discussing the competitive landscape among Spain's international goalkeepers, Garcia dismissed any suggestion of friction. "No, not at all. We're four top-class goalkeepers and each of us will try to do our best. There's nothing like that," he said.

The Barcelona man elaborated on his peers' strengths. "Regarding Unai Simon, I'd say that the calm and tranquillity he exudes is very important. Unai does that. As for Remiro, among many other things, I like how quick he is between the posts and with his feet. He's very good too. David Raya is very good with his feet and is a very brave goalkeeper who tries to help the team in any way he can."

Ferdinand shares Garcia's assessment and has outlined precisely why Raya's exclusion from the Carabao Cup final represented a significant handicap.

"We can talk about Kepa's mistake but those can happen in any game," the Manchester United legend observed. "But more than anything he was the big issue in terms of Arsenal getting through the press."

Ferdinand elaborated on Raya's impact. "I think right now David Raya is the best goalkeeper in world football and if he plays, his distribution would have been a big, big factor in that game. He would have played over Man City's press, he would have played through at times, he would have taken risks and would have been able to put an element of doubt into City's press."

The former defender continued: "Giving an opposition that kind of mindset makes them less convinced sometimes and gives them less conviction when they're trying to carry out Pep's tactical approach. Arsenal didn't deal with that bit of pressure one bit."
