Barcelona Swat Away PSG's Staggering €250m Bid for Lamine Yamal

Barcelona have confirmed they gave PSG short shrift when the French giants came knocking with a staggering €250 million proposal for Lamine Yamal.

Club president Joan Laporta has detailed how the Catalan outfit flatly refused the world-record bid for their teenage sensation, who was just 16 and on the cusp of turning 17 at the time PSG made their move.

Yamal's trajectory has been nothing short of remarkable. After a solitary La Liga substitute outing as a 16-year-old during the 2022/23 campaign, he flourished the following season with 37 league appearances yielding five goals and five assists. His performances then caught fire at Euro 2024, where Spain's triumph over England in the final was accompanied by Yamal scooping the tournament's Young Player award and a spot in the Championship Team.

Since that summer, the Spanish winger has been virtually unstoppable at Barcelona, racking up 19 goals and 22 assists across his last 56 La Liga outings.

PSG's audacious approach came in April or May 2024, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, arriving before Yamal's star truly exploded across European football. Yet Barcelona's response was emphatic and immediate: no dice.

"When PSG offered us €250 million for Lamine Yamal and we turned it down, he was 17 years old," Laporta told Jijantes FC. "Some people thought we were crazy."

Romano expanded on the details of the failed approach, explaining that both clubs share strong working relationships through Jorge Mendes, Yamal's representative. The PSG proposal was formal and substantial, but Barcelona's leadership—including sporting director Deco alongside Laporta—viewed their young talent as untouchable.

"For Barcelona, the answer was always very clear," Romano said. "They didn't want to open any negotiation. They didn't want to open any door to the exit of Lamine. Yamal has always been more than a player; a symbol of this project, a symbol of this era."

The resolve was tested recently when Yamal showed visible frustration at being substituted during Barcelona's 3-0 victory on Sunday evening. Manager Hansi Flick, however, had no issue with the reaction.

"I love that he is disappointed," Flick said. "It shows his mentality. He always wants to score, to assist, to help the team. That is good. That is what we want from our players. He is 18 years old. We have to take care of him. He plays a lot of minutes and today the game was under control. It was the right moment to give him some rest."
