Villa Turn to Loftus-Cheek After Spurs Snatch Gallagher; Abraham Edges Closer to Return

Aston Villa's January recruitment drive has hit a bump after Tottenham gazumped them to land England midfielder Conor Gallagher in a £34m deal, but the Midlands club are wasting no time in pivoting their strategy.

The Villans have already bolstered their squad with the arrivals of Alysson from Gremio and Brian Madjo from Metz this month, yet with Profit and Sustainability constraints having hamstrung their summer window, Unai Emery remains keen to add further depth to his ranks. Despite a sluggish start to the season, Villa have emerged as genuine title contenders in recent weeks and are performing impressively in European competition.

With Gallagher now heading to Spurs, Villa have turned their attention to AC Milan's Ruben Loftus-Cheek as a potential midfield reinforcement. The England international has been offered to seven clubs, including Villa, Manchester United, Newcastle, Brentford, Everton, Sunderland and Fulham. According to reports, intermediaries have indicated Milan would consider allowing Loftus-Cheek to depart on loan with an option to buy—an arrangement that could appeal to clubs hesitant about committing funds immediately.

Emery's primary focus, however, appears to be addressing his attacking options following Donyell Malen's exit to AS Roma. Former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has emerged as the leading candidate to become Villa's third signing of the window, with Fabrizio Romano confirming the 27-year-old has "opened doors" to a reunion at Villa Park. Personal terms are not expected to prove problematic, though no agreement has yet been reached with Roma or any other interested parties, including Besiktas.
