Arsenal Holding Firm on Gyokeres Despite Transfer Interest, Says Romano

Arsenal remain adamant they will not be parting with Viktor Gyokeres this summer, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has made clear, though the Italian journalist has left the door slightly ajar should a blockbuster bid materialise.

The Swedish striker arrived at the Emirates from Sporting CP in summer 2025 for £64million and has already made a significant impact. Gyokeres played a starring role in Arsenal's Premier League title triumph last season and helped guide them to the Champions League final. The 28-year-old bagged 21 goals and three assists across 55 appearances in all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign.

Yet despite his impressive contributions, the Gunners remain in the market for additional attacking firepower. Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid sits high on their wishlist, though the Argentine forward harbours designs on a switch to Barcelona instead. Spanish outlets have suggested Atletico would be willing to sweeten the pot by moving Gyokeres in the opposite direction, with the Madrid club keen on the Arsenal man.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano confirmed that Atletico are indeed sniffing around Gyokeres but stressed that Arsenal's position has been unwavering. "There have been already important, top top clubs asking about the availability of Viktor Gyokeres for this summer transfer window," Romano explained. "But the answer from Arsenal was always, 'We want to keep the player, we believe in the player, and Viktor Gyokeres is part of our project'."

He continued: "Arsenal were not opening the doors to an exit. Then, obviously, if something big comes to the table, we will see later this summer, but at the moment, the answer received by all the top clubs asking about Viktor Gyokeres has always been the same."

Romano went on to clarify that several elite outfits have made enquiries since May and early June, all receiving the same firm response from Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta. The message has been consistent: Gyokeres is staying put, barring an extraordinary offer.

Currently representing Sweden at the 2026 World Cup, Gyokeres has contributed one goal and two assists as his nation prepares to face France in the last-32 stage.
