Tonali Exit Looms as Arsenal, United Circle Newcastle Star

Fabrizio Romano has signalled that Sandro Tonali could well be heading for the exit at St James' Park come summer, with multiple heavyweight suitors circling the Newcastle midfielder.

The Italian international was touted as a shock January target for Arsenal, with reports suggesting his representatives had offered him to the Emirates. Those claims were quickly dismissed, and the Gunners ultimately gave the move a swerve—partly due to the impracticality of moving with such haste in the winter window.

Yet that January flirtation has set alarm bells ringing on Tyneside. Newcastle are bracing themselves for a potentially bruising summer campaign, particularly after the Alexander Isak saga last year when the striker forced through a move to Liverpool.

Anthony Gordon's name has similarly been doing the rounds, with Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United all credited with interest in the winger. Should both Tonali and Gordon depart, it could prove another headache-inducing off-season for the club.

Tonali's performances this term haven't quite matched his stellar showing in the previous campaign, yet he remains one of the Premier League's finest midfielders and would slot seamlessly into most elite sides globally.

Manchester United and Manchester City are both in the market for a top-tier midfielder and could feasibly mount a challenge for his signature. Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest has also caught their attention, though Tonali represents a compelling—and possibly superior—alternative.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano confirmed the midfielder's summer departure is more than mere speculation: "I think there is a strong possibility to see Sandro Tonali moving in the summer transfer window."

He stressed, however, that Newcastle will prove no easy negotiating partner: "Let's respect Newcastle, because we saw how tough it is to sign top players from Newcastle. It's never easy."

The January window made any move impossible, Romano explained, with Arsenal never willing to pursue such an unrealistic scenario and Newcastle equally unwilling to entertain offers.

"In the summer it could be different," he continued, before cautioning that Arsenal are far from the only interested party. Manchester United are keeping close tabs on developments, while Juventus harbour ambitions of bringing the former AC Milan star back to Serie A—though the astronomical fee involved makes such a deal problematic for Italian clubs.

Newcastle, as ever, will hold all the cards when it comes to both pricing and timing negotiations. Any suitor attempting to prise Tonali away will need to come prepared for a lengthy and costly transaction.
