Arsenal Urged to Pursue Anthony Gordon as Trossard Alternative After Premier League Glory

Arsenal's summer shopping list could be about to expand, despite the Gunners heading into a Champions League final against PSG this weekend on the back of clinching the Premier League.

With significant outlay already committed—around £250m spent on new arrivals before this campaign—the north London club faces a balancing act in the transfer market. Yet there remains scope for strategic upgrades, particularly on the left flank where Leandro Trossard's credentials continue to draw scrutiny.

Whilst the Belgian has delivered solid contributions this term, outperforming Gabriel Martinelli in the process, former England international Chris Waddle believes Arsenal can do considerably better. The fundamental issue, according to Waddle, is positional rather than purely about performance.

"I think they need to be looking at another winger on the left-hand side because Leandro Trossard isn't really a winger," Waddle explained to Boyle Sports. "He's been converted into one. Trossard has done well. I'm not saying he hasn't. He's a dangerous player but I don't think he's a good enough winger."

Waddle has identified Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon—currently the subject of Bayern Munich interest with a £75m valuation attached—as an ideal solution. West Ham's Jarrod Bowen represents an alternative option in his view.

"Somebody like Anthony Gordon would be a good acquisition or maybe even Jarrod Bowen," Waddle continued. "He would be a player who could play in this Arsenal team. I know he likes to play down the right and that's where Bukayo Saka is but he could do a job down the left and he'd get you goals and work hard for the team."

Former Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere shares the sentiment about moving on from Trossard, though he's advocating for more ambitious targets. Aliadiere has suggested Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Nico Williams as the calibre of player who could genuinely elevate the Gunners' attacking options.

"Knowing a little bit about the financial situation and Financial Fair Play, to bring that type of player in you would probably have to sell and there have been a lot of rumours about Trossard and Martinelli, who could be sold to generate money," Aliadiere told AceOdds.com.

The Belgian winger, however, appears content with his current circumstances. With just twelve months remaining on his Arsenal contract, Trossard has indicated his preference to remain at the club.

"I still have one year on my contract, and hopefully, first we win the Champions League," Trossard said. "Then I think next season can be another very nice season."
