Arsenal Launch £70m Bid for Real Madrid's Arda Guler in January Transfer Push

Arsenal have made their move in the January market, submitting a substantial offer for Real Madrid's Arda Guler as they look to bolster their midfield and attacking options.

The Gunners have tabled an €80m (£70m) bid for the Turkish international, according to reports from Spanish outlet Fichajes. The proposal reportedly includes a loan arrangement coupled with an obligation to buy, representing what Arsenal view as a creative solution to prise the young talent away from the Bernabéu.

The move comes despite Mikel Arteta's squad appearing well-stocked on paper. The north London club invested £250m during the summer transfer window to land Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze and Martin Zubimendi, leaving them with considerable depth across all departments.

Yet injury troubles have bitten hard this season, leaving Arteta carefully weighing his options. When pressed on January business at his Friday press conference, the Arsenal manager kept his cards close to his chest.

"We are open to every option," Arteta explained. "Obviously if we can find a solution that is short, medium or long it is always much better because it gives you stability and you don't have to constantly start a process with new players. But let's see what happens, let's see what the news is over the next few weeks and hopefully we can try to make the right decision."

Arsenal's approach appears calculated—a strategy designed to unlock what they view as a potentially transformative addition to their squad. The club believes a move would represent a significant step forward in their ambitions.

However, there's a considerable hurdle standing in their way. Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso remains the principal obstacle to any deal, with the Spaniard showing unwavering confidence in Guler's development. Alonso considers the midfielder a cornerstone of his future rotation plans and a game-changer for competing across all competitions, and he has already made clear his desire to keep him at the club.

Whether Arsenal's financial muscle can overcome such managerial conviction remains to be seen.
