Arsenal Lead Race for Goretzka as Tonali Snub Looms for Chelsea and City

Arsenal have made their move for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, submitting a concrete offer for the German international ahead of his summer departure from the Allianz Arena. The Gunners find themselves in pole position to land him on a free transfer when his contract expires, with the Premier League leaders identified as clear favourites in the race for his signature.

Goretzka's preference for English football is understood to be a significant factor in Arsenal's optimism. The draw of the Premier League's pace, physical intensity, and continental standing has reportedly convinced the midfielder that a move to north London represents his ideal next challenge.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are plotting an ambitious summer campaign to bolster their midfield further. Sandro Tonali has emerged as a prime target, with the Newcastle United lynchpin's representatives having offered him to the Gunners during the January window. Though a mid-season deal never materialised—largely owing to Newcastle's inability to secure a replacement and the £100m price tag involved—Arsenal remain determined to pursue the midfielder when the transfer market reopens.

Crucially, Tonali is said to prefer a move to the Emirates over interest from Chelsea and Manchester City. Sources indicate the Gunners are "very likely" to launch a formal approach come summer, with the player's preference for Mikel Arteta's project giving them a significant advantage.
