Simeone Confirms Arsenal's Alvarez Interest as Atletico Prepare for Champions League Semi

Arsenal's hunt for a prolific centre-forward has been confirmed by none other than Diego Simeone himself. The Atletico Madrid boss has acknowledged that the Gunners are indeed circling Julian Alvarez as they prepare to bolster their attacking options come the summer window.

The Argentine forward has caught the eye of several heavyweight suitors. Alongside Arsenal, both Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona have registered their interest in securing Alvarez's services. When pressed on the matter during his pre-match press conference, Simeone offered a pragmatic response: "I just suppose it is normal. He is an extraordinary player. There is interest from Arsenal, Paris St Germain, Barcelona and other teams. But it is nothing we are concerned about."

Arsenal's need for a fresh striking option has become increasingly apparent this campaign. Summer arrival Viktor Gyokeres, despite netting 18 goals across all competitions, has drawn criticism for the inconsistency of his overall contribution to play. The club's recruitment team clearly feels a new centre-forward capable of both finishing and linking play would strengthen their hand considerably.

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Alvarez remains focused entirely on Atletico Madrid's Champions League push. Reports of his family house-hunting in Barcelona have circulated, yet the player has made clear he will not entertain any decisions regarding his future until the continental competition reaches its conclusion. "Alvarez will not make any final decision about his future before the end of the Champions League campaign," Romano stated. "He is fully committed to the competition and believes Atletico Madrid can fight for the title or at least reach the final and achieve something historic."

Romano added that all options remain open, though no concrete contract negotiations are currently underway. Alvarez's preference is to concentrate on performances on the pitch and show proper respect to his current club during this critical juncture.

For Simeone and Atletico, the immediate focus is on the semi-final showdown with Arsenal. The Madrid manager dismissed any sense of pressure, instead emphasising the excitement of the occasion. "In terms of pressure, I don't feel the pressure and it is exciting to be as close as we are and we have never achieved it before," he reflected. "It is a special excitement. Leadership defines these games and we need to be ready and take the game to where we believe we can punish them."

Simeone went on to praise his opponents: "We will have a very tough game, against a fantastic rival and we are very excited about it."

Atletico captain Koke echoed his manager's enthusiasm for the tie ahead. "In the lead-up to these games, we are always excited. We feel butterflies in our stomach. It is just like a first date," he said. "Then once you start warming up it is all gone, it is just a football game, and you would be as excited as you would be for any semi-final. We expect a very strong Arsenal side and this is a Champions League semi-final and that is how we approach it."
