Arsenal's Title to Lose, Says Silvestre – United Must Learn from Gunners' Blueprint

Mikael Silvestre reckons Arsenal have positioned themselves perfectly for a maiden Premier League crown, while suggesting Manchester United should study how Mikel Arteta's side operates.

The Gunners extended their advantage at the summit over the weekend, moving seven points clear of both Manchester City and Aston Villa. City fell to a 2-0 defeat in the Manchester Derby on Saturday, while Villa's home fortress crumbled in a 1-0 loss to Everton the following day.

The former Arsenal and United defender believes the chasing pack lack genuine title credentials. "I think it's theirs to lose," Silvestre told Esports Insider. "They're seven points ahead, and when you look at the other teams chasing them, they don't seem like real contenders. With the work they've done, the confidence they have, and players available in every position, I think Arsenal is well-equipped to finally win the title."

Barcelona have reportedly identified Arteta as a potential successor to Hansi Flick, with Sport claiming the Gunners boss is among the most coveted candidates for the Camp Nou role.

Silvestre, who represented both north London and Old Trafford during his playing career, believes United must emulate Arsenal's approach—particularly their consistency—if they are to mount a sustained challenge. The Red Devils' midfield requires reinforcement, he argues, with only three genuine options in Kobbie Mianoo, Manuel Ugarte, and Casemiro currently available for rotation across multiple competitions.

"There are a few areas that need attention," Silvestre explained. "I'm sure the club will invest in more quality players, but there are also uncertainties, like a few teams having tough seasons—Liverpool, for example, hasn't shown much this season, and even City is struggling a bit with form."

Arsenal have squandered title opportunities previously, and Silvestre cautioned against complacency. "Consistency is key. We've seen Arsenal in this position before—they collapsed two or three times, giving away the top spot and missing the final step. Realistically, if United has two or three transfer windows to strengthen, they should be in a good position."

United's performance in their 2-0 victory over City in Michael Carrick's opening match in charge impressed Silvestre. "It was a very good performance for 90 minutes, solid at both ends of the pitch. It confirms what we've seen since the beginning of the season: the team is playing better, even with a change of manager. Quality has been brought in, and it's paying off."
