Berta's Summer Mission: Arsenal Plot £80m Raid on Villa's Rogers

Andrea Berta is on the hunt. Arsenal's sporting director has set his sights firmly on Morgan Rogers, the Aston Villa winger who has become one of the Premier League's standout performers this season.

The 23-year-old has been a revelation at Villa Park, racking up 14 goals and 12 assists across all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign. That form has earned him recognition at international level, with the England international expected to feature prominently in this summer's World Cup.

Berta has reportedly made Rogers his personal project for the transfer window, and the Gunners have already begun laying the groundwork for a move. Mikel Arteta is understood to be leading Arsenal's charge to bring the winger to the Emirates, with preliminary talks already underway with Villa.

The timing could prove crucial. Aston Villa's Champions League qualification appears unlikely to convince Rogers to stay put, particularly given the club's well-documented PSR concerns. According to Sky Sports, the prospect of Champions League football has done little to shift the situation, with Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea all circling. PSG lurk in the background too.

Villa would welcome an £80m-plus windfall, funds that could be reinvested across their squad to strengthen the group. That financial imperative may yet work in Arsenal's favour.

However, a stumbling block looms. Villa value Rogers at approximately €115 million—a eye-watering £100m—while Arsenal's internal valuation sits "significantly less" than that figure. Bridging that gap will be essential if Berta's summer project is to reach fruition.

The Gunners have shown they're prepared to be active in the market this summer despite their Premier League title triumph and Champions League push. Whether they're willing to stretch their finances to Villa's asking price remains the key question.
